Hearing Screening
Hearing screenings are an integral part of the total school health program and are mandated by the Department of Health. Hearing screenings are done to: Promote an optimal level of hearing for all students;
Prevent the development of hearing problems that may affect the student's health and potential for learning;
To identify students with potential hearing problems;
To notify parents of a child's hearing screen failure and the need for more comprehensive evaluation, and who will provide that service;
Provide educational accommodations if needed.
Possible signs of hearing problems in your child are: Frequent earache complaints;
Frequent requests to repeat what is being said;
Turning one ear to the speaker;
Talking too loudly or too softly;
Indistinct speech- slurring words or omitting sounds;
Watching lips of the speaker;
Inattention in the classroom;
History of head trauma or recurring ear infections
If your child fails the school hearing screening, a referral form will be mailed to you recommending a Free complete evaluation at the RI Hearing Center (or you may follow-up with your child's physician). If you have any questions please call Mrs Faella at 270-8029, or contact on link at top of page.
NOTE: Hearing referrals were mailed the week of Feb. 11.
